This is a classic, psychological horror film set in New York City in 1968. Directed by Roman Polanski, the film stars Mia Farrow, Ruth Gordon, and John Cassavetes. It was nominated for several Golden Globes and two Academy Awards. It's one creepy film, but we've created two different dinner parties! Have a look at our "takes" on Rosemary's Baby and decide which one you like best!
This Lights! Camera! Dinner Party! version focuses on the dark side of the movie; the creepiness of witches and devils lurking about. The decor evokes the eerie feel of "The Black Bramford" (the apartment building where Rosemary lives), as well as her neighbor's gloomy apartment.
The decorations for the table elicit the devil himself, using napkins that recall the flames of hell, and a black satin tablecloth that reflects the baby's bassinet covering! The Scrabble pieces are a nod to the scene when Rosemary discovers the true identity of her neighbor. Spooky...
This centerpiece pays homage to the scene where Rosemary and Guy visit their new apartment for the first time. They notice the herb garden left by the previous tenant, Mrs. Gardenia.
Adrian Marcato liked to conjure up his buddy now and again!
Our delicious specialty cocktail is made with dark rum, cherry bitters, cranberry juice, and more.....
Named for the devil conjurer, Adrian Marcato.
It's dark and moody.
Rosemary means business!
Shrimp that has been flamed and laying in a dark puree of black beans. The bright red roasted cherry pepper on top adds a bit of spicy heat!
Ro snacks on some raw meat....mmmmm!
Inspired by Rosemary's hankering for raw meat!
Served with red radicchio.....we'll let you decide what it reminds you of!
Guy's got some explaining to do!
Dark, rich, and Devilishly delicious! With just the right touch of fruit.
This Lights! Camera! Dinner Party! version incorporates Rosemary's influence in the movie. The light contrast to all the darkness; her use of yellow throughout the movie, and her very 60's fashion.
A simple silver vase filled with yellow and white flowers and chunky yellow tapers bring the scene to life.
Rosemary redecorates her dark apartment with a fresh coat of white paint and pops of yellow.
I wanted to bring that fresh look to the table decor. We started with a bright white tablecloth. The pattern on the yellow napkins is reminiscent of the wallpaper that appears in the film. The thick taper candles were a great find!
"They're very popular in Australia."
Taken directly from the dinner scene at the Castevet's apartment. Roman offers Rosemary and Guy this delicious cocktail made from Vodka and Grenadine - served very cold with a sprig of...rosemary!
Rosemary is serving lobster and shrimp at her party. "It's a very special party, you have to be under sixty to get in."
This soup is light and delicious - and perfect for a first course.
Minnie is fabulous - but her steak was a little tough! The fabulous Ruth Gordon plays Minnie Castevet -she's both hilarious and super scary.
Minnie serves steak when she has Rosemary and Guy for dinner. We made ours with a fresh rosemary and garlic rub. We finished it off with a splash of red wine. Unlike Minnie's, this steak was tender and juicy!
Rosemary detects an undertaste..." a chalky undertaste."
"The Mousse au Chocolate. Or as Minnie calls it Chocolate Mouse." No chalky undertaste here! What's better than a creamy, fluffy, chocolatey dessert?
(The one with the coffee bean is for Rosemary...)
