The LIGHTS! CAMERA! DINNER PARTY! Contest

My sister and I were planning a Rosemary's Baby dinner party. In coming up with ideas we realized we had completely different takes on how we could do it. My sister envisioned the party having a dark, moody vibe with black table settings and blackened food - and I thought of recreating the dishes in the film and decorating with bright sunny yellow as Rosemary did. Well, it was on! A little sibling competition is always fun - and I plan to make the competitions a regular event around here. These are the final results! You decide which "take" on the movie you like best...

The L!C!DP! Contest - "Rosemary's Baby"

"Dark and Moody"

TAKE 1

The Black Bramford

This "Lights! Camera! Dinner Party!" version focuses on the dark side of the movie; the creepiness of witches and devils lurking about. It echoes the decor of the apartment building, where Rosemary lives, "The Black Bramford" as well as her neighbor's (The Castevets) gloomy apartment.

A Firey Table

The decorations for this table call out the flames of hell! The black satin reflects what Rosemary lays on when she "meets" the Devil. It was also used to cover the baby's bassinet, along with the black tulle, in the last scene.

Apartment hunting

Rosemary and Guy comment on the herb garden left by the previous tenant, Mrs. Gardenia. Guys wonders if it's marijuana!

"They're herbs mostly."

This centerpiece pays homage to the herb garden. The Scrabble pieces are a nod to the scene when Rosemary discovers the true identity of her neighbor. Spooky...

Devilish!

Adrian Marcato liked to conjure up his buddy now and again!

Marcato Dark Rum Mule

Our delicious specialty cocktail is made with dark rum, cherry bitters, cranberry juice, and more.....

Named for the devil conjurer himself. It's devilishly good.

The baby's bassinet is draped in black

Rosemary means business!

Flambéed Shrimp in a Black Bean Bassinet

Shrimp, butter, cognac, black bean puree, with a spicy cherry pepper on top.

Oh, those crazy cravings!

Rosemary snacks on some raw meat.

Rare, Seared, Poppy Seed Tuna Steaks

Inspired by Rosemary's hankering for raw meat!

Served with red radicchio.....we'll let you decide what it reminds you of!

Rosemary wakes up scratched and confused.

Guy's got some explaining to do!

Devil's Food Ganache with Raspberry Claws Cake

Probably doesn't need much explaining. Dark, rich and Devilishly delicious!

"Scratch Cake"

The bright fruitiness of the raspberries compliments the rich chocolate

1960's Vibe and a Yellow Flare

TAKE 2

Rosemary's Table

This "Lights! Camera! Dinner Party!" version focuses on Rosemary and her brightness, a contrast to the dark and evil all around her.  She liked the color yellow. This stood out in many scenes in the film.

1960's Yellow Setting

The 1960s and sunny yellow reign in this table decor idea. Rosemary's intimate table is recreated for our dinner party.

The Centerpiece

A simple silver vase and chunky yellow tapers bring the scene to life!

"A Vodka Blush? Have you ever tasted one?"

Taken directly from dinner scene at the Castevet's. Roman offers Rosemary and Guy this delicious cocktail made from Vodka and Grenadine served very cold with a sprig of...rosemary!

Rosemary and Guy sip carefully....

...they don't want to spill any on "The CARPET!"

Light Lobster Bisque

Rosemary serves lobster to her "young" friends at her party. "This is a very special party. You have to be under sixty to get in."

Rosemary and Garlic Steak

Minnie serves Guy and Rosemary steak they can barely cut for dinner. Our steak, however, is tender and juicy!

Dinner at the Castevet's.

Minnie is fabulous! ...But her steak was a little tough.

Minnie's Mini Carrots

Minnie also serves carrots along with her steak. Roasting makes them so tasty!

Chocolate "Mouse"

What else could we serve for dessert? It's light, fluffy, and chocolatey. (The one with the coffee bean is for Rosemary.)

Rosemary eats the "Mouse".

Rosemary detects an undertaste... " a chalky undertaste".
